Perhaps you are looking for the Absolute Note that will trigger your own Absolute State.  Are you?  Assuming that you are, have you tried looking totally into that quest in you, that aspiration, that search?  Can you, for instance, fully buy into the idea that the Seeker is the Sought, that you are That which you seek?  But, will repeating “I Am That” take you into your Absolute Being? Any practice of that kind would then (would it not?) blind you that the Practicer is that which is practiced.  Once you separate Here (the Path) from There (the Goal), do you not create and maintain a treadmill?  But then you try to get “There” by doing nothing. Doing Nothing becomes an activity, a path.  It becomes a tense struggle to hold your body and mind perfectly still, which can become a self-torture like the Jains.  Then you are open suddenly to natural, spontaneous action and living.  You become a sort of Taoist or Rajneeshie, which is a modern, horny Taoist rather than an ancient, contemplative Taoist.  And since you are just modern, horny and restless, you have to discover that you are remaining an ordinary asshole, a typically heavy and impure spiritual failure.  Sooner or later you see the need for purification and a certain quality of self-discipline and self-improvement.  Mere ideas of Non-duality or Heightened Awareness are no longer making it for you. You realize your Kundalini is not rising and giving you higher experiences.  You do not hear Nada, you do not see the Great Lights beyond outer senses.  You are not developing Siddhis, miraculous Powers. Nobody is impressed by your “advanced presence”, you feel like a loser in the spiritual scene on Earth.  But then you find some way to rationalize that, to save your self-image, by “knowing-important-spiritual-truth”.  You feel that your very struggles and failures have made you rather “wise”.  Once you are “Old and Wise” you are utterly dead-ended and beyond repair, waiting for Death to finish you off.  Your only hope then is real rejuvenation.

This Note is precisely about the rationalizing of Spiritual Failure.  One of the most terrible and disintegrating spiritual failures is to indulge in imaginary, pretentious Spiritual Success through trying to be a Spiritual Guide, Counselor or Advisor, which is the final victory of the Social or False Self over the Spiritual or Real Self.  Spiritually, pretence is worse than death. Where there is pure sincerity, lack of pretence, which is to retain the potential to learn, genuine rejuvenation and higher awakening are still possible.
