TAKE NOTE OF SOMETHING DIFFERENT

SESSION TWO HUNDRED AND
SEVENTY-FOUR

This note is about your anxious considerings as to what people think of you.  When you have such considerings, you cannot fearlessly do what is most real and good for you because of the fear that someone will disapprove of you.  In such a state you become heavy, morose and frustrated; you become a prisoner of dull, boring routines; you become a virtual slave of society. Then you begin to become desperate to make a good impression on others; you begin to believe you need a visible worldly achievement of some sort that will give you respect, money or popularity; you try to be somebody!   You lose sight of the fact that the anonymous being, the nobody, is the most free and potentially happy, the most likely to develop unusual, powerful and hidden abilities.

This note wants you to face an important fact about life that you have not fully understood (if you have understood it at all).  It is this: You need not be anybody at all in the mediocre eyes of the everyday people or society of the world you have to live in. What you really need is to be an authentic individual with an actual free and true will of your own.   Once you understand this with the whole of your being, you will say goodbye to the opinions of superficial people about you.   A lion walking on the open Earth has no concern about the gossip that may be directed at him by packs of cowardly or vicious dogs.  Will you be a lion?

A truly successful inner life will appear to the people of ordinary society as either inconsequential or as eccentric and repulsive.  Since they are not in the right place in themselves, and since they are inwardly weak and lacking real perception, they are also inwardly blind and cannot judge other people rightly at all.  A man who can see has no concern for the opinions of the blind.  Do not go to the next note session without this liberating attitude!
