Escape From The Human Jungle
by Seymour Freeman

Vernon Howard once wrote a wonderful book of his aphorisms entitled, 1500 Ways To Escape The Human Jungle.  I am going to comment on some selected aphorisms from that book which I believe are particularly important for anyone who wants to awaken to real personal freedom beyond the increasingly destructive trends of mass insanity.  If you will go into these powerful insights with me, you may begin to uncover a sense of spiritual direction that has been eluding you perhaps for years.  Do yourself a favor and go truly deeply into all this.

Vernon Howard: The good performed by awakened individuals is never seen nor appreciated by hypnotized humanity.

Comment:

Genuine good cannot even be correctly defined by conditioned members of any society, culture, race, nation, political ideology or religion.  Only a truly awakened individual can perceive what is actually good and helpful for human beings.  Such an awakened individual, for instance, will have no illusion whatsoever that some vast multitude will be thrilled and awakened by some enlightened book, article or essay with real truth in it.  Awakened individuals perceive that only a very tiny little minority of scattered people might be shown something that will awaken them.  It is only a very rare person of real awakening intelligence, for instance, who can learn how to persistently and extensively question the Vernon Howard Oracle and make good use of the answers.  Most people who visit the site are too dull, normal and hypnotized to understand it and make use of it; they cannot comprehend it or learn how to make use of it to accelerate their inner awakening and cosmic learning.

VH:  It is a healthy shock to deeply see how few people really want to change inwardly.

Comment:

Your associates, friends and relatives do not want real inner self-change and self-improvement.  In fact, they will put subtle pressures on you to conform to their pseudo-wise nonsense.  Surely you will have to face it increasingly that any attempts to wake up their higher intelligence can only result in them (A) getting upset at you, or (B) coming back at you with their own arrogant and foolish nonsense of feeling superior and wise toward you, as if they already know all about self-awakening and self-change which is just their rationalizations of self-stagnating intellectual and spiritual laziness.

If you also look beyond people of your own life toward the community and society at large around you, you will have to see that the overwhelming majority are just stagnating and rationalizing their failure to learn or develop themselves.  The most they can conceive of is perhaps to go on a diet or give up cigarettes.  They are hardly even remotely concerned with Zen Enlightenment, becoming fully developed Sufis, getting to the Nagual state of a Mexican Seer who can move the assemblage point, or realizing the Turiya Samadhi through Yoga Vedanta.  Only one person in ten thousand will even buy a book or two on such subjects and only one in a million try to do something personally realizing about such things beyond mere daydreaming and New Age socializing.

VH: Everyone who foolishly marches in step with the mechanical masses proudly believes he is independent.

Comment:

Most people believe that a man or woman of real Cosmic Consciousness must be an erroneous would-be cult leader who wants to “brainwash” people and take away their “thinking for themselves”, their “free choices” and their “independence”.  How many dull normal idiots do you know who are not actually quite boring, unstimulating and obviously incapable of originary thinking?  How many are not prisoners of bad habits and press-the-button emotional reactions?  What kind of “free choice” or “independence” do frightened, superficial conformers have?

How free-of-habits are you?  How truly independent beyond ordinary society are you in your lifestyle, your choices and dedications of your time?

Slaves who imagine they are free cannot be liberated.  Unconscious, hypnotized people who imagine they are conscious cannot be awakened.  People who are incapable of learning cannot be taught greater knowledge and understanding where they imagine they are already learning and progressing.

VH: Escape from the human jungle is an inner action, unseen and unapplauded by the jungle inhabitants.

Comment:

The Earth is more like Planet of the Apes than a genuinely human world.  Anyone who does not see this fact or who argues against it is still all-too-subhuman.  Hypnotized normals always recommend hypnotic, conditioned normalcy of their own local brand of it as the superior way of life for all of humanity.  Anyone who is actually waking up from dull normalcy will not be seen as an enlightened individual but more probably as someone who is insane or even dangerous.  In fact, an awakened individual has to learn to hide his actual state in daily transactions; he or she has to be able to appear normal without believing it or falling back into the compulsive mechanicalness of it.  The teachings of Hakim Bey on learning to be Rendan pertain to this, as do the teachings of Nagual Juan Matus on the four Stalking techniques of Controlled Folly of learning to be Ruthless, Cunning, Patient and Sweet.

VH: Deliberately slow down your inner world of thoughts and feelings, then be ready for some astonishing discoveries.

Comment:

It is your usual thoughts and feelings that are keeping the normal, neurotic and subhuman world of ordinary humanity active and intact for you as the supposedly “practical” and “real” world.  Your usual internal babbling to yourself about your doings, coupled with your daydreams and visualizing of possible events about you or toward you, are maintaining the entire unhappy world of humanity as you believe it to be.  As the Mexican Seer, Juan Matus, once told Carlos Castaneda, to Stop the World and reveal the Magical World of the Spirit, you must stop your internal dialogue with yourself, including your self-centered imaginings about yourself and your affairs.
